Who are you?

My name is Asia Gholston I am, Strong, Empowered and Classy.

What do you do?

I currently work in advertising as a Digital Buyer as well as owning my own consulting business D-Social in which I work with local start-ups, businesses and non-profits in the digital space.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about life! It’s so vague but yet so real, the ups. the downs, the joy, the pain, the laughter and the tears. I have a love/hate relationship with almost everything.

Strength refers to the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor; mental power, force; moral power, firmness, courage; power by reason of influence, authority, resources, numbers, etc. What makes you strong?

I believe my experiences make me strong. You truly never know how strong you are until….you have to be. For the most part I was raised in a single parent household….looking back things got real…sometimes too real, but I also wouldn’t change any of it because then I wouldn’t be who I am today.

Empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender, or economic strength of individuals and communities. Where does your sense of empowerment derive from?

My empowerment definitely comes from being a woman (go figure). But seriously I am driven by other strong women, I love it. I don’t care what you do, just do it and do it well. I was raised by strong women, I befriend strong women. I admire strong women. I’ve seen women juggle careers, kids, family, good men, not so good men, friends, sickness, sexism, flat tires, leaky faucet and do it all in heels, one earring, but with a smile. I have a very “I am woman hear me roar” personality.

Classy refers to being elegant, stylish; having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior; admirably skillful and graceful. How important is it to maintain a sense of class in your life or field?

I’m currently on a personal journey; which includes this whole “think before you speak” /“everything that comes to your mind does not need to leave your mouth” chapter. Which I believe is working out really well for me. By me being the “strong” outspoken woman that I was basically raised to be, I had to create, learn, draw AND implement the line between holding my ground and being just plain obnoxious. Which is very necessary for both my professional and personal life. Believe it or not you get what you want more with a smile than a frown.

Life is truly a journey. Are you proud of where and who you are right now? Why?

I guess it depends on the day you ask me. Some days I reflect on the things I have accomplished and think “you’ve done pretty good for your age and circumstances” then on others days I wake up thinking “ you are 23, what are you doing with your life?!?!?!” I am my biggest critic, with that being said my answer is yes I am proud of where I am today spiritually, emotionally, professionally, personally, physically (if I can lay off the midnight trips to the kitchen for ice cream).

If you had the opportunity to speak for the masses, what would you say?

Live.Love.Laugh and most importantly do not be afraid of your feelings. Granted as mentioned above everything you think or feel needs not to be said or acted upon. But internally it is all fair game! If something hurts your feelings then OK, don’t let it happen again. If you wake up and feel like you can take over the world….DO IT! If you have friends that are teachers and really passionate about kids and you’re not….IT’S OK. I’ve learned that throughout the day we wear many different faces one for work, one for family, one for friends, one for lovers etc (and if you don’t then you are just NOT that interesting…and that’s ok too) at the end of the day before you go to bed its just you…no sense in trying to fool yourself. Then I would leave them with this “…people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” –Maya Angelo. So go out there and make great memories with great people.
