Who are you?

My name is DeLisha Sylvester. I am Strong, Empowered, and Classy.

What do you do?

I am the founder and CEO of Women’s Elevation Magazine. It is a magazine that looks to promote, inspire, and elevate women both in business and those looking for a positive media outlet.

What are you passionate about?

I am truly passionate about sharing the stories of other women who have not allowed life’s setbacks to deter them from their goals.

Strength refers to the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor; mental power, force; moral power, firmness, courage; power by reason of influence, authority, resources, numbers, etc. What makes you strong? Tell us how it strengthens you.

My strength comes from the positivity that is in the world. Every time I feel like giving up or throwing in the towel, I realize I can’t because my message is bigger than me. What you do inspires others so I try to remember that even when I’m tired there is someone out there that is looking forward to what I have to share.

Empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender, or economic strength of individuals and communities. Where does your sense of empowerment derive from?

My sense of empowerment truly comes from the women that are around me in my everyday life. My mother is a huge part of why I do what I do. If she can battle heart disease and breast cancer, I can surely do my part to empower us through positivity and support.

Classy refers to being elegant, stylish; having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior; admirably skillful and graceful. How important is it to maintain a sense of class in your life or field?

Being classy is very important; it’s more than an image. Being classy isn’t about what you wear or how your hair looks, its about how you carry your spirit. I try to keep an upbeat and jovial spirit which in turn allows me to maintain style and grace.

Life is truly a journey. Are you proud of where and who you are right now? Why?

Most definitely, I’m not a perfect person but I am much better than I was yesterday. Because I’ve lived my story, I know the trials I have been through in life, and therefore I know that I have come very far. I look forward to seeing where life takes me on a daily basis.

If you had the opportunity to speak for the masses, what would you say?

My message would be that we are in need of substance and positivity. With so much bringing us down, we feed too much into the hardship of others to make us feel better. But if we could just remember that every positive movement has an effect on the lives of everyone, I think that we would support each other more.
