Who are you?

My name is Jessica Disu aka FM Supreme and I am Strong, Empowered and Classy!

What do you do?

I am an artist, educator, poet, mc, activist and social entrepreneur. I also serve as a motivational speaker from time to time.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about serving God and honoring His will for my life. I have experienced a lot on my path and journey to become a force to be reckoned with in the Hip Hop community, but by the grace of the Lord, I now only aspire to only do what God wills. I love serving and educating young people and anyone who is willing and open to learn something new about themselves and the world that we live in. I passionately write music lyrics when my spirit moves me to do so and I am very passionate about my performances. I am also very passionate about learning. I love to learn.

Strength refers to the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor; mental power, force; moral power, firmness, courage; power by reason of influence, authority, resources, numbers, etc. What makes you strong? Tell us how it strengthens you.

I am strengthened by the grace, blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Before I began my walk with Christ, I survived many situations that should have destroyed my life and destiny. But God made a way and introduced me to His Son, Jesus and by allowing the Holy Spirit to instruct me, rebuke me, and minister to me and to direct my steps is how I became so strong. When I am going through a storm or an unpleasant experience, I immediately encourage and strengthen myself with the Word of God. The Lord promised in Isaiah 54:17; “No weapons formed against you shall prosper.” The Psalmist, King David of the Bible also wrote  “The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, and He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake. And though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil.” Psalms 23:1-4. These scriptures amongst many keeps me strengthened and encouraged daily.

FM SupremeEmpowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender, or economic strength of individuals and communities. Where does your sense of empowerment derive from?

My sense of empowerment comes from my upbringing in nonprofit organizations such as; Kuumba Lynx (KuumbaLynx.org), Young Chicago Authors, Chicago Academy for the Arts High School (chicagoartsacademy.org) and Trinity United Church of Christ. As a young person, membership in these groups not only nourished and matured my development; it also equipped and sharpened my skills as a writer. Kuumba Lynx inspired me to always write, perform, speak and tell the truth. Young Chicago Authors gave me a platform to perform and also was another outlet to hone my craft. The Chicago Academy for the Arts High School (not CPS’S “Chi Arts”) provided the learning environment that pushed me to grow as a young academic and poet. My alma mater challenged me in ways that I had never been challenged before because of cultural differences amongst many things. That experience empowered me to stand strong in my beliefs and to understand other perspectives. I joined Trinity United Church of Christ in 2009 under Pastor Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III. Rev Moss empowers and encourages our congregation with prophetic sermons and messages from the Divine. His preaching style is “Hip Hop jazz” and it is comforting considering that I had neither prior background nor experience in the church.

Classy refers to being elegant, stylish; having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior; admirably skillful and graceful. How important is it to maintain a sense of class in your life or field?

As an artist and MC, I have always sought to dress differently than my peers. In my humble opinion, nice clothes are vanity, however, God made us all uniquely with style. Style is very important in marketing yourself in the business and entertainment industries. As a lady, I have learned to “keep it classy.” As an educator, although I dislike the word “role model”; it has been apparent for some time that I have the natural ability to strongly influence young people. I do not take this privilege lightly and I am always very concerned about what I wear when I enter schools and how I speak to the youth because although I am educated and “hip” at the same time, I always emphasize to my students the importance of being true to themselves and also to be professional. Yes, I teach kids at a young age, that they have to be professionals. It is uber important to keep it classy as an educator, especially in the classroom.

Life is truly a journey. Are you proud of where and who you are right now? Why?

Life is certainly a journey! I am very pleased with where I am at right here in this moment. I truly believe that the present is a gift, and I cherish each day that The Lord allows me to breathe and to share my gifts with His children. I have yet to see the vision that God has blessed me with fully manifest; CommonWealth Music Group. This company is my babygirl 😉 and she is still growing, however, we have had significant success including two European tours as well as have done a great job of branding, consulting and developing young artists who have now made names for themselves including; Deja K. Taylor, Prince Talent, Kiara Lanier (American Idol Finalist Season 12) and Chance The Rapper, who I allowed to open for me in 2010 before he became a famous young artist. I am thankful for all of the opportunities and artists that God has blessed me with and look forward to many more. I believe that in this season in 2013, many changes will be made.

AllINeedIsOneMic.com is a company that may also feature the Jane Thang Productions, LLC’s Strong, Empowered and Classy Highlights. The premise of this site refers to needing that one opportunity to present your talent and shine. If you had the opportunity to speak for the masses, what would you say?

When I have the opportunity to speak to the masses, I will tell them about the goodness of the Lord and that true salvation rests in Jesus Christ. I will tell them my story and witness for GOD, how He altered my path and changed my heart while He renewed my mind. I will tell the masses, that the world is a very dark and lost place and that GOD is calling us to be lamps on hills. Lastly, I will tell the masses to repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus and be filled with the Holy Ghost, and allow GOD to show you, your purpose.
