Who are you?

My name is YcJmike. I am Strong, Empowered, and Classy.

What do you do?

I am a recording artist.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about getting out my dreams and turning them into reality; and my family plays an important role in my life.

Strength refers to the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor; mental power, force; moral power, firmness, courage; power by reason of influence, authority, resources, numbers, etc. What makes you strong? Tell us how it strengthens you.

I would say my determination would be my strength. I am always striving to improve.  Being a recording artist from Detroit, Michigan has its flaws. I’m already stereotyped as every other African American from the projects. You get categorize as being a follower or sharing someone else’s dream, and there is doubt as well as hate.  My Ambition keeps me strong and positive so to all the criticism, I see it but it does not bother me because I’m bigger than that and I have greater goals to attain.

Empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender, or economic strength of individuals and communities. Where does your sense of empowerment derive from?

Giving back to the community is very important to me. There are numerous of children without fathers that get caught up in the project  life; as far as drugs, gang violence, and even prostitution. You have a high percentage of abandoned houses and buildings. When I get financially secure, I plan to give back as much as I can just to show kids there is another way of life and dreams do come true.

Classy refers to being elegant, stylish; having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior; admirably skillful and graceful. How important is it to maintain a sense of class in your life or field?

I think having a sense of class is essential in my line of work, because as an artist you have to be marketable and appealing to the public, you can rap all you want but with no style or swag, as some may say, nobody’s looking for you. With that being said, to some I dress different but I like to think I have a good sense of style.

Life is truly a journey. Are you proud of where and who you are right now? Why?

Success isn’t given, it’s earned and I truly understand that what you put in life is what you’re going to get.  I can’t complain about where I am at in life; I’m still young and have more living to do which means more goals to accomplish.

If you had the opportunity to speak for the masses, what would you say?

I would thank them for even considering me and tell them I’m grateful for the opportunity  I know many would kill for this position. Growing up in Detroit, life is difficult and for a chance like this to get a better opportunity in life I’m very thankful.
