Yetunde Interview

Who are you?

My name is Yetunde, and I am Strong, Empowered and Classy.

What do you do?

By day I am a Senior Internet Business Analyst, I consider this my part-time job. By night, I am a Co-Founder of She’s A 10 and Owner of Andsoshewrites.com. Being a blogger is beyond a full-time position, and leading a movement to empower women to overcome their lack of self-worth, well… that’s my life.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about making a difference. I believe everyone has a purpose in his or her life and mine is to make a difference. I’m passionate about touching the hearts of others, encouraging their greater good and letting the world know that it is very much so possible to be a “Phenomenal Nobody.” I’m passionate about the art of self-improvement, and being an example for those who are non-believers.

Strength refers to the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor; mental power, force; moral power, firmness, courage; power by reason of influence, authority, resources, numbers, etc. What makes you strong? Tell us how it strengthens you.

Experiences. Experiences make me the strong person that I am today, though I do admit, I often have my weak moments. 2012 was the year of trial for me. From moving my life to NYC, to dealing with a sexual assault, to many other blessings in disguises, these experiences taught me that I am alive and I’m pushing through. You see, experiences give me the life lessons I need to push on and become a better me daily. They give my life the color and texture it needs. They help build my purpose, and that indeed makes me strong.

Empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender, or economic strength of individuals and communities. Where does your sense of empowerment derive from?

I think a part of it comes from the beautiful people that surround me and love me whole-heartedly, supporting all of my random ideas.  It also comes from the newfound self-confidence I have gained in the past year. I believe most things are possible if you believe it to be. But most of all, the act of failing empowers me to be phenomenal. One of my closest friends will never allow me to be weak, and failure to me is accepting a defeat you know you are better than… and I just can’t have that.

Classy refers to being elegant, stylish; having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior; admirably skillful and graceful. How important is it to maintain a sense of class in your life or field?

I think it’s fairly important to maintain a sense of class in all aspects of your life. You are always being watched but I also think it’s just as important to remain true to yourself. I consider myself quite the classy woman to my own definition. Elegance, style and personal standards all vary from woman to woman, but what makes it consistent is how they own it. I own my style, I have set my own standards and I am as graceful as I need to be.

Life is truly a journey. Are you proud of where and who you are right now? Why?

In terms of where I am, I feel that I have accomplished quite a lot for someone my age, but I know there is so much more in this world for me to conquer. I am content with my continued progress, and sometimes I have moments where I am completely astonished by what I have managed to achieve but I do not want to become complacent. Complacency is losing.

Am I proud of the person I am? Yes, yes I am, and it’s taken all my life for me to finally say that. I am passionate and goal orientated, sarcastic and goofy, a lover of all things girly, and I have a bit of a potty mouth. I believe in ‘happily ever afters’ and I can sometimes be a bit difficult, but that is me and I am beyond proud of that.

If you had the opportunity to speak for the masses, what would you say?

It’s quite simple actually: Be Great. Be Phenomenal. Why live a life that someone else can easily replicate?
