Chuniq Inpower Interview
Who are you?
My name is Chuniq Inpower. I am Strong, Empowered and Classy!
What do you do?
I am a public relations professional, entrepreneur, pageant director, writer, community mentor and activist and mother.
What are you passionate about?
Many things! I am passionate about the art and practice of communications and relating to other people across a myriad of cultures in various aspects of the human experience. I am passionate about educating our youth and inspiring them to be great as they see fit. I am passionate about living life to the fullest and going after your dreams by any means necessary. I am passionate about breastfeeding advocacy, parenting, nutritional health, youth education and building community resources.
Strength refers to the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor; mental power, force; moral power, firmness, courage; power by reason of influence, authority, resources, numbers, etc. What makes you strong? Tell us how it strengthens you.
My last name is INPOWER. Power and strength are relative terms in which power is a force of energy and influence emanating from the inherent strength that lives inside of me. What makes me strong is knowledge. Knowledge strengthens me as it gives me the necessary information required to make sound decisions and conscious, objective judgment. Knowledge is the life of the mind.
Empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender, or economic strength of individuals and communities. Where does your sense of empowerment derive from?
My sense of empowerment is derived from my self. The self. The self is connected to others; it’s a microcosm of a macrocosm. By understanding how “my”self is related to “our”self, “them”selves, etc. I take on the responsibility and pride of helping others around me from politically with the Detroit Hip Hop Caucus, to educationally with “Hood Health For Girls”, I’m empowered by making sacrifice in service to those around me for the betterment of the collective.
Classy refers to being elegant, stylish; having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior; admirably skillful and graceful. How important is it to maintain a sense of class in your life or field?
Class is absolutely necessary, especially for young women emerging as professionals in our respective fields. To maintain, class, you are practicing self-discipline, a characteristic necessary for success in other parts of your life. A high standard of personal behavior and refinement speaks highly to how you perceive yourself and how you expect to be treated in return. For one to have respect, she must first respect herself.
Life is truly a journey. Are you proud of where and who you are right now? Why?
Absolutely! Everything happens for a reason. I graduated from Michigan State University with one career path in mind, ended up on another, new projects fell in my lap and I’ve accepted the challenge each turn my life has taken and continue to strive to achieve the goals I’ve set for myself. I’m enjoying this journey and looking forward to what is to come! One stiletto step at a time!
If you had the opportunity to speak for the masses, what would you say?
Keep learning. Keep growing. Stay classy.
