I attended the Black Girl Long Hair’s Chicago Naturals Summer Meetup and Product Swap event on Sunday, June 24th, 2012 and I was surrounded by inspirational hairstyles, jewelry, and beauty products. The women that attended this event truly carried themselves with “Strength, Empowerment and Class”. One booth that exuded a special charm was the booth where author, Deanna Burrell stood, showcasing her new novel, Single Girl Summer. My fancy was tickled when I heard her explain her book as the “black version of Sex and the City”. I loved the sound of that because I love the Sex in the City series and the movies for the friendship, the fashion, the big city lifestyle and the constant search for true love. Single Girl Summer surrounds three women that “come together by chance, grow together as friends, and ultimately discover that for every girl, there’s a season” all while Chicago serves as the big city back-drop.
