Stylicia Bowden Interview
Who are you?
SB: My name is Stylicia Bowden. I am Strong, Empowered and Classy.
What do you do?
SB: I am a speaker, author and spoken word artist/poet. It is my desire to change women’s lives and empower them to be authentic through my verbal and written ministry.
What are you passionate about?
SB: I am passionate about helping women overcome social validation and tapping into their authentic self. I have a great desire to assist women in being the woman that God has destined them to be by living out loud, boldly and authentically.
Strength refers to the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor; mental power, force; moral power, firmness, courage; power by reason of influence, authority, resources, numbers, etc. What makes you strong? Tell us how it strengthens you.
SB: The one essential thing that makes me strong is my faith in the Lord, my family and daughter. I believe through all the adversity I have endured, it was the Lord who brought me through all the things that could have destroyed my mental and physical capacity. The other thing that makes me strong is my family foundation. My parents taught me and my brothers to always stick together and to love one another unconditionally. I love the fact that I have a strong family foundation,, which I am teaching my daughter, that family comes first.
Empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender, or economic strength of individuals and communities. Where does your sense of empowerment derive from?
SB: My sense of empowerment comes from my personal journey of trials and tribulations. I had to learn to not allow my setbacks stop me from being who I was destined to be. Every circumstance was a character building moment.
Classy refers to being elegant, stylish; having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior; admirably skillful and graceful. How important is it to maintain a sense of class in your life or field?
SB: I believe classiness is important because it defines who you are and prepares you for the greater things in your life. It is important to have a sense of elegance and decorum for yourself because it commands others to respect you.
Life is truly a journey. Are you proud of where and who you are right now? Why?
SB: I am truly proud of who I am and where I am at now in my life because I have learned to love myself unconditionally; the good, bad and ugly. I no longer look for other people to validate who I am because I know who I am. “I am the perfect imperfection.”
AllINeedIsOneMic.com is a company that may also feature the Jane Thang Productions, LLC’s Strong, Empowered and Classy Highlights. The premise of this site refers to needing that one opportunity to present your talent and shine. If you had the opportunity to speak for the masses, what would you say?
SB: I would say, “Do not allow your current situation to define who you are and where you want to go. If you dream, dream big and stay focused on your dream. Do not allow others to hold you back in accomplishing your goals. Be bold enough to live life outside the box and be outrageous enough to exceed the limitations of the status quo. Average is not good enough set your goals to be above average.
